Eleanor Moreton A Buried Life |

Opening: Tuesday, 30 September 6-8pm This solo exhibition of paintings by Eleanor Moreton is the result of a year long residency at Durham Cathedral. A Buried Life can describe the accumulation of influences that both enrich and envelope our self-awareness. More specifically, it also refers to the burial of something beneath our consciousness, on both an individual and societial level. Eleanor Moreton possesses a rare and painterly versatility. Shifting between styles and subject matter, she is guided by clusters of personal themes rather than a predetermined linear narrative. From early twentieth century Austrian royalty to 'Potato Princes', Moreton paints images into the world that reflect explorative and emotional states. Checked by the conceptual underpinning of a self-conscious romanticism, her palette and brush strokes form a seductive blend of figurative abstraction. Eleanor Moreton's work has been selected for EAST 2007 and the 2008 John Moores. She is represented by Ceri Hand Gallery, Liverpool, UK. Coinciding with A Buried Life is an exhibition of Eleanor's drawings, paintings and collages at the Durham Light Infantry Museum from 13th September to 12th October 2008. Reg Vardy Gallery is open: Tuesday to Friday 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday by appointment. For more information please call 0191 515 2128 or email Do Holroyd.
